Morecambe House
Morecambe, Lancashire
Artist and architect team Sans Façon were invited to develop a creative proposal for the west end of the seaside town of Morecambe as part of a wider regeneration initiative. Local artists Soma Design were selected to work alongside Sans Façon to learn more about how artists work in the public realm.
Sans Façon proposed the re-use of an empty terraced house due for demolition as a creative space to accommodate a programme of local, national and international artist residencies, events, studio visits and discussions. The proposal document they produced stands as a feasibility study for the project.
While Public Art and Regeneration Officer at Lancaster Council Suzanne developed and managed the project steering group consisting of local residents, councillors and More Music (Morecambe’s local arts organisation). She also developed a programme of advocacy, talks and visits to support and broaden the group’s knowledge and understanding of public art, including a visit to Liverpool Biennial and Antony Gormley’s Another Place at Crosby Beach in Merseyside.
